Hurricane Melissa

Short-term and Long-term Response

The island nation of Jamaica is reeling after being struck by Hurricane Melissa — a monstrous Category 5 storm that made landfall with winds of approximately 185 mph (295 km/h), marking the most powerful hurricane in Jamaica’s recorded history.

The focus shifts to rescue (searching for survivors, medical aid), relief (shelter, food, water, power restoration) and recovery (rebuilding homes, roads, utilities, restoring agriculture). Given the scale of the destruction, this will be a multi-year process. Jamaican authorities have declared the island a disaster area to unlock emergency powers and resources.

The Deangels Foundation is committed to providing support for immediate relief to all impacted areas.

Additionally, we are parallel pathing other initiatives to acquire and provide resources to ensure that once critical infrastructures are restored, the access to educational services will be available to children and familes.
